The Write Life

Seducing hearts, one story at a time, Author - Crystal R. Martin

Tomorrow would have been my mother’s 68th birthday, but she left us unexpectedly in 2011. I feel her absence profoundly every day of my life. When she left, the world became a much darker, forbidding place.

There are so many moments when I simply want to call and ask her a question. What is all this hate in the world? How do I deal with my teens turning into adults? How do I survive in this world when you are missing? There are many more questions I long to ask her. These are just the most pressing ones. Sorry this is short, but I am raw right now. Next week will hopefully prove more pertinent, entertaining, and interesting.

This made me well up. You don't need to be "entertaining." Just honest. Thank you for sharing.

I am so sorry to learn about your loss. I can't imagine losing my mother (we almost did when she needed an organ transplant and her time was basically up until her miracle came).

"I feel her absence profoundly everyday" Very powerful words. I call my mother several times a week, often talking about all of the hate in the world. It's a sad day and age we live and I can't imagine not being able to vent to her about the things people and animals must endure.

I lost my dad when I was 17. He was murdered. When he first died, I thought about him every single day. Now, I think about him several times a week and still after 17 years of having him gone, I wish he was here. I still hear his loud, Italian voice echoing down the Philly streets we walked along.

Glad to have read this and I really hope you can get through this extremely sad and dark time.

You see the dark side when you should be embracing the light. Your world turned upside down and you feel that you lack the guidance to function without her being there. She spent a lifetime teaching you the things you would need to survive, as she knew that the time would come when she would not be able to be there for you. She taught you that Love is greater than hate. She taught you how to deal with your teens in the way she treated you when you were a teen. She taught you how to be strong in the face of adversity. She taught you to live your dream no matter how big. When you have a question for her ask, she is living right there in your Heart. She entrusted you with all her wisdom, teach your children her wisdom and that which you have gained from others. The torch has been passed, don't let the light go out.
