The Write Life

Seducing hearts, one story at a time, Author - Crystal R. Martin

Hi Darlings,

Today I had a weird experience. At work, I saw someone I hadn’t seen in a long time. That connection led me back to a former version of me, I had almost forgotten existed. I was much younger, the writer in me, just a seedling. I was a burgeoning poet. I was also the president of our high school Writers Guild. I won two people’s choice awards. I still have the certificates somewhere. The impressive part is that the awards were based off of the poetry, without the poet’s name. It was not just your average popularity contest.

I was just as idealistic then and ready to take on the system then too. I remember we picked out a cool name for our Writers Guild, but our advisor and creative writing teacher said no way. I understand now, how much different it was then. This was the very early nineties if you must know. Sappho had interesting connotations that weren’t acceptable then. Our advisor did not want the community thinking badly of her or us.

That was such a different me. It was like looking at a long lost relative. I nodded to her, and it made me smile. Here I sit a different person, but traces of her still flow through me. That’s enough waxing nostalgic. I’ll be back soon with something different.

    Love to you all.
